Forging A Head is a 36" x 48" oil painting by artist Rebecca Robb.
This painting was such a thrill to paint. The white, and even black stripes, of the zebra leave so much opportunity for color and temperature. There is so much warm light bouncing off the zebra creating many beautiful blue shadows. The background is abstract, a perfect backdrop for the impressionistic stripped beauty. I wanted something simple to not detract from the intricate simplicity of the zebra. I envisioned something very textured, like an old wall, with pealing layers. I chose bright warm yellow with terracotta undertones to represent the golden savanna on the plains of Serengeti as the dry season draws near.
