Reveille is a 16" x 20" oil painting by artist Rebecca Robb.
I remember as a child my parents called “waking up time” reveille, which I later learned is a military term for the rise and shine bugle call. My dad would wake us up each morning by singing impromptu songs he made up as he went about waking us. He would even incorporate our annoyed reactions into his corny lyrics. To give context, my dad is completely tone deaf. He is clever and witty with on-the-spot song rhyming talent, Robin William style, but he sings completely off key.
“Reveille” is a my ideal rooster singing his heart out at dawn. He takes it upon himself to dutifully awaken the world with his “sweet” song. Roosters are like that person you know who thinks they can sing, or at least just sing anyway. Our idea of farms, early morning sunrise and alarms just wouldn’t be the same without the reputable croaking rooster.
